Video

Combined.

This project combines video and animation. I recorded a video of myself playing Avatar’s Love on my kalimba with the camera facing a beautiful tulip tree blowing in the wind. Using a technique in photoshop I converted the video into a digital watercolor look. I then edited the video to make it seem as though it were a watercolor animation with fewer frames, when in reality it is still a normal video with a stylized look.

Experimental.

My friend Gretta, a dancer, choreographer, and soon to be teacher, is the subject featured in the video. She often appears in my projects as she is always excited to be a part of my creative process.

This project was later used for an experimental animation but the raw footage tells its own story. My focus was on creating an interesting composition, framing the subject, and telling a short open ended story without words.

Musical Timing.

The goal for this project was to create and edit a video that cuts in time to music. I knew I had to use a song created by Louie Zong on youtube, Ghost Duet. This project was created during the quarantine so I had to work with my low quality camera, filming myself without anyone around to help. This also meant I had to be creative with masking my shots to make it seem like there was more than one of me. I felt that an old film effect suited this project perfectly and it masked the lower quality of my equipment.

I had to overcome a lot of challenges in order to make this video a reality, including the fact that I was only given one day to film and edit the whole thing! I look back on this project fondly, and feel that it represents my innovativeness and creativity.
